Fundraising Tip #4 – Host a Pancake Breakfast!

Hosting a pancake breakfast at a community centre – or another community-oriented location – is a great way to increase your fundraising for the MS Walk! Providing a nice warm breakfast at a reasonable price will allow people to get involved within their community while donating to an important cause. You can easily spread the word about your pancake breakfast fundraiser by handing out or posting flyers at your location of choice, advertising the event on your social media accounts or calling your local newspaper to extend an invitation and inquire about free listings.

MS Walk Fundraising Tip #3 – Plan a social gathering

Social gatherings are the perfect time to let your friends and family know that you are participating in the MS Walk and why you are lacing up for someone you love to end MS. Spreading the word to familiar faces is comfortable and will make people aware of your fundraising initiative! Even if they don’t have the ability to donate at that particular time, they will be conscious of your efforts and may contribute to your fundraising at a later date. Don’t forget to mention the option of pledging online at http://www.mswalks.ca.

Happy Family Day MS Walkers!

The MS Walk is truly a family-oriented event that makes a difference in the lives of Canadians living with MS. It’s a great chance to get the whole family together in support of a future without multiple sclerosis.

Not only will everyone enjoy the food, prizes and camaraderie on MS Walk day, but the build-up to the event offers countless opportunities to spend some quality time together. Getting every family member involved in the fundraising process is great for family bonding and also teaches the importance of helping others and supporting a meaningful cause. You can keep checking up on the blog for great fundraising ideas for you and your family!

MS Walk Fundraising Tip #2 – Donate to Yourself

Eager to pick up the pace of your fundraising? Maybe it’s time to get a head start with a pledge to yourself.  Studies have shown that participants who pledge themselves raise more than twice as much as those who simply ask others and more than 5 times as much as those who simply show up and write a cheque on event day.  Your efforts to personally donate will inspire friends and family members to pledge as well. So lead by example and pledge today!

Volunteers are essential to the MS Walk

Have you ever thought about volunteering with the MS Society, but weren’t quite sure how to take the first step? Or were unsure about the impact of donating your time? I’m here to tell you about how vital volunteering is to everything we do and that every little contribution makes a difference in the lives of those with MS.

Volunteering not only benefits the MS Society, it is a rewarding experience for those who choose to give their time. It allows you to support a great cause while meeting new people, learning new skills and broadening personal experiences.

As the MS Walk is our largest fundraising event, happening in 58 communities across Ontario, we need volunteers like you to assist with the implementation of the entire event. From setting up the site, to preparing and serving meals, to meeting and greeting the participants as they arrive and cheering them through the finish line at the end, there is a job for everybody! Every position plays an essential role and we couldn’t do this without the hundreds of volunteers that assist us year after year.

If you are interested in volunteering for an MS Walk or to learn more about volunteering for the MS Society, please contact me at volunteer@mssociety.ca or 1-800-268-7582 ext. 3111.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Nicole Dube
