Walk Diary: Belleville Mandarin MS Walk

Welcome to our new Walk Dairy author, Jessica C.! Her first entry comes from this year’s Belleville Mandarin MS Walk, check out the details below!

The 2013 Belleville Mandarin MS Walk took place on May 26 at Moira Secondary School. With 211 participants, the event raised $35,202! Prominent at this year’s event was the unofficial theme of laughter, smiling and having fun! Despite, the slightly colder weather, participants weren’t dissuaded from enjoying all the entertainment Belleville staff and volunteers organized.

Belleville participants were treated to entertainment from long-time volunteer Rollo the Clown (who celebrated his 80th birthday with us) and his friend Topper the Clown. In addition, 2012 Trenton Teen Idol Michayla Marykuca sang and played guitar for participants as they registered, posed for TeamMS photos and waited for the walk to start. It was a truly memorable morning!

After the event, local sponsors Little Caesars Pizza, Dewes Your Independent Grocer, Tim Hortons and Starbucks provided walkers with much needed sustenance upon their return from either 5k or 10k routes. Following the closing ceremonies, people returned home happy, well fed and excited for next year’s Mandarin MS Walk!

Walk Diary: Scarborough Mandarin MS Walk

In addition to the Toronto Mandarin MS Walk, staff member Katelyn V. was also honored to lead the Scarborough Mandarin MS Walk. Read the details of her experience below!

The 2013 Scarborough Mandarin MS Walk took place on Sunday, May 5 at our new start/finish location, Willow Park Junior Public School. With just over 210 participants we had a beautiful day for the event, with sunny skies across the GTA.

CTV’s Colin D’mello graciously acted as the emcee and after the event announced that the participants had raised over $47,000! It was a great day to end MS. I especially enjoyed hearing participants say, “it was inspiring to see all the different people out doing the event and supporting people with MS in our community”. We can’t wait to see what next year will bring!

This week’s entry is from MS Society staff member Scott.M.

The 2013 Woodbridge-Vaughan Mandarin MS Walk was held on Sunday, May 5 and was a huge success!  Moving Mountains for MS made their team debut with an astonishing 252 participants, helping the event surpass its 2012 participant totals with 472 walkers raising an outstanding $81,000 in 2013.

After a fabulous opening ceremony that included speeches from Mayor Bevilacqua, Rogers TV’s Erica Natividad and a warm up led by Bodies by Design, participants enjoyed a sunny walk through the streets of Woodbridge. Upon their return, pizza and hot dogs were served and prizes were raffled off to lucky participants.
The proceeds from the Mandarin MS Walk will support research and services for people living with MS within the Woodbridge and Vaughan communities. Thanks to all participants and donors, your contributions will go a long way in the fight to end MS!
