Has the Mandarin MS Walk left you wanting more?

Have you just finished taking part in the Mandarin MS Walk and want to do more? The Mandarin MS Walk may be over for another year, but there’s still lots you can do to help end MS! Here are only a couple of ways you can support the MS Society’s mission in the coming months.

·         Take part in MS Bike. Now that you’ve laced up, why not gear up? MS Bike is the largest cycling series in North America, with events across Canada. Ride lengths range from 30 km to 160km and follow some of Ontario’s most scenic cycle routes. To find an MS Bike event close to you, go to the MS Bike website

·          Host your own DIY yourself fundraising event. Host your own event for people living with MS. Whether it’s a dinner, bake sale, golf tournament or another type of event, hosting a custom event is a great way to bring a personal touch to your fundraising. For instructions, tools and idea, head to our DIY fundraising website.

To learn about all of the MS Society’s fundraising initiatives go to the MS Society website. A big thanks to everyone who took part in the Mandarin MS Walk, and we hope to see all of you next year!

No time like the present or over the next four weeks!

Congratulations again to everyone who participated in the May 26 Mandarin MS Walk events. We loved seeing your spirit and commitment to the MS cause! To check out the results from your community, visit mswalks.ca/ontario and click on your event location.

And just a reminder, May 26 Mandarin MS Walk participants can continue to fundraise and submit pledges online or by mail for up to four weeks after the event. This is great news for those of you who weren’t able to collect pledges in time and those who were dollars away from their goal! Four weeks is plenty of time to reach or surpass your fundraising goals; so that official Mandarin MS Walk t-shirt, $75 in gift cards and much more is still achievable

Donations and pledges (excluding cash) can be mailed to:

Last minute fundraising ideas

For those who have yet to reach their fundraising goal, we have a few ideas on how to generate those last minute donations.

1.       Ask everyone you know and ask them to ask others - The only way to meet your fundraising goal is to ASK, ASK, ASK! Ask clients, colleagues, suppliers, anyone and everyone. Make a list of places where you visit; don’t forget about doctors, dry cleaners, mechanics and your favorite restaurants!

2.       Host your own fundraising event - Special events can be a fun, easy and a quick way to generate funds in a single day! Host a BBQ, bake sale, garage sale or even a car wash, whatever appeals to you. You’ll end up having a great time while supporting a great cause too!

3.       Increase your social networking activity - Social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, are a great way to spread the word about your fundraising efforts and passion for the MS cause. Post a link to your personal fundraising page on your timeline or feed, asking your friends and family to donate to your event. Get your efforts noticed! You can also take advantage of our social media tools to spice up your email signature or Facebook timeline.

However you decide to raise funds, the best tip we can give is to create a network of supporters. Raising money can be a breeze with the help of your family and friends!

Find out the results of the Mandarin MS Walk in your community at mswalks.ca/ontario.

The MS Carnation Campaign begins on May 9

Women in Canada are 3 times more likely to be diagnosed with multiple sclerosis than men. Because of this, many Canadians living with MS are mothers. That's why every year the MS Carnation Campaign takes place over Mother's Day weekend.

From May 9-11, 2013, thousands of volunteers in more than 280 communities across Canada will be showing their dedication to finding a cure by selling carnations on street corners, in malls and in other public spaces. Show your support for the fight to end MS buying a carnation this Mother’s Day.
For more information visit http://mssociety.ca/ontario/carnation.htm.

Spread the word about MS on 1 Day in May!

Every day, thousands of Canadians navigate their daily lives with multiple sclerosis; a lot can happen in a day.

This month, we encourage you to raise awareness for people living with multiple sclerosis and be a part of 1 Day in May. There are a number of ways you can participate - sign up for your local MS Walk, buy a carnation from May 9-11 to support the MS Carnation campaign or visit Mr. Lube where a donation will be made to the MS Society for every oil change performed on May 10-12

You can help by spreading the word about your experiences with MS by updating your Facebook cover photo to promote 1 Day in May, hanging a poster in your community or hosting a DIY fundraising event on World MS Day (May 29). To see all the ways you can get involved, go to 1DayinMay.ca.

Countdown - 4 more days!

Mandarin MS Walk Countdown - 4 more days until the Mandarin MS Walk! Remember to wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Consider wearing a jacket that’s light enough to take off and carry in case the weather changes.

“I go out of my way to thank all the people who contribute to the MS Society by walking, cycling and reading. I have told them how their help and unselfishness has enhanced my life and how I have seen the differences their contributions have made in my life. There are a great amount of positive changes and they must be made aware that they are responsible.” – Person living with MS
